Historical Data

The Data Portal provides free and open data for carbon accounts and researchers.

Explore granular electricity data for scope 2 carbon accounting. This includes emission factors for over 50 countries in CSV format for hourly, daily, monthly and yearly temporal granularity.

Free API for personal use

Electricity Maps offers a free tier for personal users, providing access to both real-time and historical electricity data for the past 24 hours. The free API can only be used for non-commercial use cases.

Data Properties

Carbon Intensity

Get access to the carbon intensity (in gCO2eq/kWH) of electricity consumed in a specific region, which takes into account the life-cycle emissions of electricity production.

Power breakdown

Get insights into the production and consumption breakdown of electricity by the power source (e.g. gas, solar).

Hourly granularity

We deliver data at an hourly resolution, to reflect the variation in grid emissions throughout the day.


Using our peer-reviewed flow-tracing methodology, we accurately trace back the true origin of electricity by accounting for imports and exports.
