GridCast: Our New Forecasting Engine

Olivier Corradi
GridCast v1.1.1 is now available in the API.
For the last two months, GridCast has been running in parallel with our previous production system, and it's consistently come out ahead across every key signal we forecast: wind, solar, load, flows, and day-ahead price.
The consistent improvements mean GridCast is now the default engine behind our forecasts on the API.
We spent over 6 months rebuilding our entire forecasting infrastructure from the ground up. With GridCast, we can test, measure and compare models across signals and zones, at a much higher pace than before.
Recently, we added our own proprietary fundamentals forecasts as input features to our day-ahead price forecast. This "grid-connected" approach has improved our predictions for near-zero and negative day-ahead prices significantly.
What's coming up next:
We're focused on catching spikes, and on adding more specialized weather data, more detailed grid data, improved exchange-flow modeling and better fundamentals, each one compounding into a more accurate day-ahead price forecast.
Every model is backtested individually and benchmarked against earlier models.
We work closely with our customers and partners to test these models against their trading strategies.
Reach out if you'd like to be part of that workflow.
